Document Properties: Destination
The Destination properties page specifies the title
for the document and the destinations where iSiloX copies
the converted document.
Document Title
Each document must have a title. The title may be up
to 31 characters long. You should make sure that you give
each document a unique title.
There are a couple of important points you need to be
aware of with regard to the requirement that the title
you assign a document should be unique.
- By default, the file name used for the converted document
is based on the title. So if you have more than one document
converted using the same title and written to the same
destination area, then the last such document will be the
only one left since each subsequent one overwrites the
previous one with the same file name.
- A file that is a document in iSilo™ format
uses the Palm OS® database format as the top-level container
format so that the document can be installed to the internal
memory of a Palm OS® device. The title is stored internally
within the database as the name of the database. The name
uniquely identifies the database, so if you have two databases
with the same name, one will overwrite the other.
Dynamic title components
In addition to static characters in the title, the title
can also have dynamic components such as the date of conversion
or the title of the first source file. Dynamic components always
begin with the two-character sequence consisting of a backslash
and an uppercase X, followed by the component name. If the component
has additional parameters, a question mark follows the component
name and the parameters follow the question mark. A semicolon
marks the end of a component.
The following table lists the available title components:
Component
| Description
|
\Xdate;
| Text: The date the conversion starts.
Default format: A six character sequence in the
format Y2M2D2, where Y2 is the last two digits of the year,
M2 is the two digit month, and D2 is the two digit day.
Parameters: Any of the following parameters can be
provided in any order. Additional characters may also be
interspersed between the parameters as separators that are
included in the resulting text.
Y : The year in natural format (e.g., 1999, 2004)
Y2 : The year in two-digit format (e.g., 99, 04)

D2 : The day of the month in two-digit format (e.g., 09, 31)
|
\Xtime;
| Text: The time the conversion starts.
Default format: A four character sequence in the
format H2M2, where H2 is the two digit hour in 24-hour format
and M2 is the two digit minute.
Parameters: Any of the following parameters can be
provided in any order. Additional characters may also be
interspersed between the parameters as separators that are
included in the resulting text.

Adding HotSync® Destinations
If you have HotSync® installed, then you can add HotSync®
users to the destination list. After iSiloX converts
the document, it queues the document for installation to the
listed users so that the next time the user performs a
HotSync®, the document is installed to the user's device.
HotSync® destinations appear in the destination list
with the HotSync® icon
.
Adding a HotSync® user destination
To add one or more HotSync® destinations, click the
HotSync®... button. This presents
the HotSync® Users dialog. Select one or more
users from the list, select one of the Destination
options (described next), then click OK to add the
user(s) to the destination list.
Handheld device memory
Selecting Handheld device memory for the Destination
option installs the document to the internal storage memory of the
Palm OS® device.
External memory card
Selecting External memory card for the Destination
option installs the document to the /Palm/Programs/iSilo/
folder of the first memory card with enough free space for the document.
Note that some Palm OS® devices may have built-in memory
cards and that the order in which the HotSync® Manager presents
the memory cards to the iSilo™ Install conduit
may differ from one HotSync® operation to the next. For specific
control over exactly which memory card the document installs to,
use the Path destination option described next.
Path
Selecting Path for the Destination option installs
the document to the path entered in the adjacent field. The path
specifies the memory card and location on the card to which to install
the document and must be a full path with slashes as path component
separators. Either forward slashes or backslashes may be used as
path component separators.
The first component of the path must be the volume name or label
of the memory card. If the volume name is empty or not that of a
mounted memory card at the time of HotSync®, the document
installs to the first memory card with available space.
Following the volume name component is the path of the folder
to which to install the document. If the full path ends in a slash,
the filename is based on the document title as described above.
Otherwise, the last component of the path is the file name the
document takes on the memory card.
If any of the folders in the path do not exist at the time
of installation, the iSilo™ Install conduit
creates them.
Following are some example paths:
Example Path
| Description
|
/Johns Card/Documents/iSilo/Diary for September.pdb
|
Volume: Johns Card
Folder: /Documents/iSilo/
File name: Diary for September.pdb
|
/128M/Entertainment/
|
Volume: 128M
Folder: /Entertainment/
File name: based on document title
|
//Documents/iSilo/
|
Volume: first one with enough free space
Folder: /Documents/iSilo/
File name: based on document title
|
//My Hobbies/Fishing/Laws and Regulations/DeepFish
|
Volume: first one with enough free space
Folder: /My Hobbies/Fishing/Laws and Regulations/
File name: DeepFish
|
Note that the path must begin with a slash and that the characters
listed in the table below can not be used for any part of the folder
path or file name. However, there may be additional characters
that can not be used and are dependent on the file system of the card.
Using invalid characters will result in problems or errors during
installation of the document:

you to change the destination to be a path and to enter the
specific path for the document.
You can not directly change an added destination to another
user. Just remove the entry you want to change and add the
new one in the normal manner.
Notes
In order for iSiloX to be able to install
documents to the external memory card, HotSync® Manager
version 4.0 or greater with the VFS Manager must be present.
If it is not, iSiloX disables the External memory card option.
If you choose External memory card or Path
and the user does not have an external memory card,
then the document will not install to the user's device
when the user performs a HotSync®.

with enough free space for the document. Note that some devices
may have built-in memory cards and that the order in which the
operating system on the device presents the memory cards to the
iSilo™ ActiveSync® service provider may differ
from one ActiveSync® connection to the next. For specific
control over exactly which memory card the document installs to,
use the Path destination option described next.
The exact destination path depends on the device, but for English
language devices, the full path of the destination folder is usually
\Storage Card\My Documents\iSilo\
.
Path
Selecting Path for the Destination option installs
the document to the path entered in the adjacent field. The path
must be a full path with slashes as path component separators.
Either forward slashes or backslashes may be used as path component
separators.

prompting, so make sure you are aware of this.
Remember that if the file name ends in a backslash, then iSiloX
assumes that it is a folder and uses a destination file name based
on the Document Title and appended with a .pdb extension.
All folders in the path leading to the destination file must exist
or iSiloX will not be able to copy the converted document to its
destination.
Adding a File Destination
To have the converted document copied to a file, click the
File... button. This presents the
Save As dialog for you to specify the destination
file name. After specifying the destination file name
